Off to Jules

Or from now on I want a virgin!

Well today I left work early as Peter and I were heading up to Stafford for the weekend to stay at Jules' new place. Normally Jules would come back here to Southampton for the weekend, but she had to work late today so we decided to head up there.

She was going to meet us in Birmingham for a spot of dinner first. So we had to get a train from Southampton at 17:15 which meant leaving work at half past four, but that was okay.

The train taking us there was run by Virgin and it was pretty cool. The seats were comfy, they have in-train entertainment and power outlets for laptops! It was by far the best train I have been on ever (although that may change with an upcoming Eurostar trip!).

Once we met Jules we took a little stroll though the city centre. Most of the buildings destroyed during the war were replaced by wonderful examples of sixties architecture (like the Cameron Offices in Canberra), but these were slowly being pulled down and replaced by some funky new buildings. In about three years time it will probably be a cool place to live!

We had dinner in a nice Italian Restaurant before heading back to Stafford.

Apparently Jules has planned out the entire weekend, so it should be fun.

More tomorrow.....

The best part of the Birmingham city centre is the revitalised canal area, which at one stage was the busiest inland part of Britain. Birmingham also has more canals than Venice, but of course Venice is much smaller, meaning more canals per square mile.
